So while I was in the middle of typing my Godzilla: City On The Edge Of Battle review, more marketing stuff dropped with a poster, a mini-teaser trailer, and some interesting viral marketing clues. If I wasn't hyped for this movie enough, I may go into overload before SDCC 2018! I need time to process all of this because this was all dropped at once. Let's go ahead and begin with the mini-teaser.
So the mini teaser is called, Reach Monarch. First, it shows Millie Bobby Brown as Madison and she is trying to reach someone from MONARCH. Perhaps, she is trying to call for help or perhaps she is worried about her parents. She tries over and over and until finally she gets a response. It isn't the kind of response that she wanted to hear though. Over the radio, she hears some commotion. It sounds like soldiers are fighting something as some sort of screeching can also be heard. It could possibly King Ghidorah screeching or maybe Mothra. But we know that it wasn't Godzilla nor Rodan making the sounds. While hearing the commotion, she starts freaking out and looks like she wants to take the headphones off. She seems to be inside an office. Perhaps, it's her mother's office and she was told to wait there until her mother gets back. What is funny though is that you can see a camera and the cameraman behind Millie Bobby Brown. Maybe as we get closer to release this will be fixed, but right now that guy is just sticking out like a sore thumb. Anyways, this mini teaser trailer definitely confirms that we will be seeing a full length trailer really soon.
The next piece of marketing we get is the teaser poster for Godzilla: King Of The Monsters. It sort of resembles the teaser poster for Godzilla (2014) with Godzilla's dorsal plates in the background, but it also has a hint of Kong: Skull Island as well with Godzilla being silhouetted in the background. Also you have Millie Bobby Brown in the foreground staring up at something. I know in the poster she is looking up at Godzilla, but in the movie she could be staring at something else. Next, there is the title card and release date looking nice with that blue impact font. Last, you have the tagline, "THEIR REIGN BEGINS." Of course, this is talking about the main four monsters that will be appearing, Godzilla, King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan, but I suspect that there could be others as well and I will get to that part next.
For those that follow viral marketing for Cloverfield or Godzilla or Kong: Skull Island, you would follow stuff on Twitter and Facebook that would lead to clues on the movie's story. Well, the viral marketing has just started up again for Godzilla: King Of The Monsters. If you go to the website, www.monarchsciences.com you will find that the website has updated with globe you can interact with. On this globe, you notice right away marking locations of MONARCH's research bases. Only three of them are free to look at for now, but it has information about King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan. But it makes me wonder what these other locations are studying. Perhaps, those are locations of where monster attacks happened or maybe locations where other monsters are located? Only time will tell as we get closer to the movie's release next year. Also, you will find that there are certain levels of classified information. It appears more info are still locked down behind classification for the main three. Moving on, if you look to the left side of the website you will see three buttons. The first two you can ignore, but the last button says track on it. Push it and it will take you to Godzilla's current location. Just where do you think he's going? The obvious answer would be to SDCC 2018 since we are most definitely getting a trailer at this point. Afterwards, where else will he be going? Maybe to Antarctica where King Ghidorah rests? How about Mexico? Rodan isn't too far away and I'm sure he's been feeling lonely since his last appearance in Godzilla: Final Wars. Or maybe China to grab some authentic Chinese food with Mothra?
