GameCube Godzilla Game Is Getting A Remaster For PC And Modern Consoles

Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered is finally here

Let's go back in time to 2002. It is the GameCube/PS2 era. At that time, people were playing Super Mario Sunshine, Animal Crossing, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Kingdom Hearts, and so on. That same year, a Godzilla game in the form of a fighting game was released on GameCube (2003 on X-Box) called Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee. If you were a Godzilla fan that year, this was our Super Smash Bros. that year. It did not have a big roster like the later titles. It was a game everyone remembered fondly. Now, the game is getting a remastered version.

There was a petition years ago to get all three of the fighting games remastered for current consoles. Atari and Pipeworks did take notice of the petition in the past and had commented they were interested, but didn't hold the Godzilla license at the time. So it seemed as though the petition was not doing anything until Summer GameFest where Atari and Pipeworks revealed the game by surprise.

According to Atari's website, they are releasing physical versions of the game for Playstation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 and Digital versions for Steam, Playstation 5, X-Box Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. It has a release date of November 3rd, 2026.

If you have been following me, that day is considered Godzilla Day. Also, Godzilla Minus Zero releases that same week. So that alignment makes sense. Yet, that is not what has gamers and fans reacting to. What people are really reacting to is that Grand Theft Auto 6 releases two weeks after. Most video game studios have been steering away from releasing their games in November because of GTA 6. And Atari and Pipeworks were the only ones to have the courage to release Godzilla: DAMM Remastered that same month. The memes coming out of it have been kind of wild, but it is all friendly competition at the end of the day. A Barbie game collection is also releasing in November and fans are just hammering up the "Barbzilla" memes with Godzilla and Barbie beating up GTA 6.

So far, the game is looking to be more than just a straight up remake. The game is adding online and local multiplayer and additional single player campaigns for each kaiju. They are revising the unlock system for monsters, arenas, and gallery items to be accessible in any order. In terms of roster, the trailer has shown Godzilla (Heisei), King Ghidorah (Heisei), and MechaGodzilla (Showa).

Depending how large the roster is for this game, I can see DLC packs made. Imagine if there was DLC that had the Monsterverse monsters. Monsterverse versions of Godzilla, Kong, the MUTOs, Skull Crawler, Mothra, Rodan, King Ghidorah, MechaGodzilla, Shimo, and Skar King (Maybe SpaceGodzilla, as well, to support Godzilla x Kong: Supernova) can be in a DLC pack. Fans have been clamoring to see the Monsterverse in a fighting game. This remaster can definitely grant that if Atari and Pipeworks is really interested in going all in.

Graphically, it does not look the best. Every stage has a brown filter muting all of the color. Maybe Atari and Pipeworks are trying to capture that classic Showa era feel. To me, I would like to see more color like in the original. The original game was vibrant with color and without it, the game is just not great to look at.

For now, you can preorder Godzilla: DAMM Remastered only on Atari's website. I have put in a preorder, myself. I decided to bend the knee and get a Nintendo Switch 2 for it. You win, Nintendo. You got me.
