Godzilla (2014) started a trend for the Monsterverse series to show the introduction credits being redacted. When you slow down the credits they reveal little tidbits of info about the movie's history. This continued into Kong: Skull Island and into Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, except they were placed at the end credits instead. The interesting thing about the redacted end credits in Godzilla: King Of The Monsters is that the parts that are redacted actually tell a story. I was able to figure out most of them, but a few of them I had to guess. Here is what I got.
Note: The "…" were just the names of the people that worked on the movie. I took them off just to focus on the redacted parts.

As we can see from the redacted, it's telling the story about the rise and downfall of an older and advanced human civilization, how the earliest humans use to live side by side with the monsters and tried to use them for war only to backfired, and how it caused a riff between the human/monster bond resulting in them being forgotten by time. The only ruins the movie showed were the ruins that were found deep beneath the ocean when Monarch was trying to look for Godzilla. The ruins were of a sunken city that worshipped Godzilla like a god. So it begs the question if Godzilla was among one of the monsters that rebelled against the humans for trying to control him and sank the city. Seeing as this Godzilla does not act aggressive towards humanity in Godzilla (2014) and Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, my guess is that he is not the one responsible. There could be another explanation as to why the earliest human civilization crumbled.
My theory is that Ghidorah was the one commanding the monsters in that era to destroy like he did in the movie. Ghidorah assumed position as the Alpha of the pack and called to them to rebel. Some of the monsters did as they were told while others like Godzilla and Mothra flat out rejected Ghidorah's call. Many people fled to safety by migrating to other continents while some people stayed to fight back and perished. The result was that Godzilla and Mothra came up victorious by knocking Ghidorah unconscious and making him fall into the water where he would be found frozen in Antarctica. However, Ghidorah's storms caused not only the city to sink, but also caused an ice age thus failing to restore balance. The surviving humans tried to keep the stories alive, but was eventually lost to time. The evidence to support this is from the cave paintings showing Godzilla, Mothra, and the humans joining sides and combating Ghidorah and in the movie seems to be repeating history all over again as we see Ghidorah calling for all of the monsters to rise up and we see this huge hurricane surrounding Ghidorah cause massive floods to Washinton D.C. and Boston and Godzilla, Mothra, and the humans battling Ghidorah side by side. While the humans in the movie don't have telepathic powers like in the story, the Orca does play a roll to connect that bridge of communication thus creating a similar cataclysmic event.
