Behemoth - Titans Explained

Titanus Behemoth is one of the three original monsters that makes a brief appearance in Godzilla: King Of The Monsters. In the movie's novelization, Behemoth was given the alternate name, Mapinguari, which is a crpytozoological creature in South America described to be a giant sloth. His overall appearance resembles a woolly mammoth, but he is more related to the giant ground sloth with how he walks on the knuckles and having long, sharp claws. Despite his massive size, he can make himself appear bigger when he can stand on his back legs.

The name, Behemoth, is a reference to the monster in the bible. Behemoth was first mentioned in the book of Job; and he, along with Leviathan, was used as a demonstration by God why HE should never be questioned and why only HE can do all things that man cannot.

"Look at Behemoth, which I made just as I made you; it eats grass like an ox.

Its strength is in its loins, and its power in the muscles of its belly.

It makes its tail stiff like a cedar; the sinews of its thighs are nit together.

Its bones are tubes of bronze, its limbs like bars of iron.

It is the first of the great acts of God— only its Maker can approach it with a sword.

For the mountains yield food for it where all the wild animals play.

Under the lotus plants it lies, in the covert of the reeds and in the marsh.

The lotus trees cover it for shade; the willows of the wadi surround it.

Even if the river is turbulent, it is not frightened; it is confident though Jordan rushes against its mouth.

Can one take it with hooks or pierce its nose with a snare?" - Job 40: 15 - 24

In the movie's novelization, Behemoth was discovered by MONARCH in a cave at the Tingua Preserve located in Brazil. MONARCH built a containment facility on top of Behemoth's slumber grounds and labeled this outpost, Outpost 58. When Behemoth awoke from his slumber, his caretakers tried to flip the kill switch immediately as according to protocol. However, one of the scientists, Mariko, doomed everybody when her colleagues learned that she tampered with the kill switch. After destroying the containment facility, he exits the cave without any scars or burns leaving only Mariko left to her fate and stomps his way to Rio de Janeiro.

In the movie, Behemoth is first revealed hidden in the opening credits off to the side of Legendary's logo. Next, he is seen destroying building after building with his large tusks at Rio de Janeiro. Later on, we get a glimpse of him calmed down after Madison broadcasts the ORCA through Fenway Park's speaker system. Behemoth makes his last appearance at the end of the movie along with Rodan, MUTO, Scylla, and Methuselah bowing to the king of the monsters. In the end credits sequence, one of the newspaper clippings mentions Behemoth restoring the rain forest back to its original state.

Out of all of the new monsters revealed, Behemoth is perhaps my most favorite in terms of being an original design. Usually, the new monster would look like a giant reptile or a giant insect/arachnid, which does get old. I honestly hope that we do see more of Behemoth in Godzilla vs Kong just to see what he can do in a fight. I bet with those claws he has can do some serious damage.
