Godzilla KOTM Prequel Novel Revealed

Poster for the graphic novel, Godzilla Aftershock

Today, the next chapter of the Monsterverse Comic series has been revealed with the title Godzilla Aftershock. Like the graphic novels for Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island, this graphic novel ties in with the upcoming movie, Godzilla: King Of The Monsters. How this graphic novel ties in with the movie is that it takes place after the events of Godzilla and before Godzilla: King Of The Monsters.

Godzilla Aftershock will introduce new characters that will also appear in the 2019 movie and will also dive deeper into the government research group, MONARCH, and find out what other skeletons they are hiding in their closet. The description of the graphic novel follows Vera Farmiga's character, Dr. Emma Russell, and her discovery of clues that forces her to stop a threat that could lead to an event of apocalyptic proportions. A tragedy that happened in mankind's distant past where Godzilla battles an ancient rival.

I really like the mosaic art work on the cover. Based on how the people are drawn, I assume they're suppose to look Persian. Perhaps they witnessed Godzilla claim victory after a fight with another monster and they are rejoicing or Godzilla had just arrived and they are terrified. Since Godzilla's backstory in the trailer for Godzilla: KOTM had him depicted as being worshiped like a god, I believe the people in the mosaic are suppose to be in awe at Godzilla's presence, which means they could be praising him.

On October 27th, there will be a panel at the Los Angeles Comic Con that will explain how Godzilla Awakening, Skull Island: The Birth Of Kong, and Godzilla Aftershock ties in with the movies. The panel is called "Godzilla: Secrets of the Monsterverse" and will take place in room 403B at 3pm. Hopefully, we will see more information on the graphic novel and actually get answers on how these novels fit with the movies. Godzilla Aftershock will be released in Spring 2019.
