Yesterday afternoon, NECA announced the end of their Godzilla toy line. Due to the license expiring, NECA will no longer be able to make nor sell any Godzilla merchandise starting mid-August. This announcement became official from their official Twitter account.
NECA has started shipping out their Godzilla 1989 and Godzilla 2003 figures to stores and people who ordered them online. However, it is best to start searching for them now instead of waiting. I will be out hunting for these figures and right now I am late in the game because currently places like NECA's Ebay store, Amazon, and Big Bad Toy Store have all sold out while I am typing this. So ordering these figures online will not be an option.
You are probably wondering about the repainted versions of those same figures, Godzilla 1989 Biollante Bile and Godzilla 2003 Hyper Maser Blast figures. NECA has confirmed those figures are still on the way. So I recommend you pre-order those now while you still can.
Once I have done my reviews for these figures I will give my final thoughts on NECA's Godzilla line overall. I have heard one rumor that this is only temporary since PlayMates has the license for Godzilla and they're getting ready to release their toys for Godzilla vs Kong and once that is done with after a year or two then NECA will renew the license and continue their Godzilla line. That could be true, but you may never know what will happen with PlayMates. Their Godzilla vs Kong toys could do well enough for them to want to continue making more toys.
It is a real shame that NECA is pulling the plug. I feel as though they were just about getting these Godzilla figures down pat with their Godzilla: King Of The Monsters line and then with their other figures such as Godzilla 62, 64, 89, and 03 figures. If this is only temporary then I hope that we see NECA's Godzilla line return.
Will you be getting NECA's new Godzilla figures? If you have, what are your thoughts on Godzilla 89 and 03?
