Back in March, I never got to talk about the first teaser that revealed Godzilla Minus Zero at CinemaCon. I really dropped the ball on that, but I will say that first teaser really had me excited. We see the cast from Godzilla Minus One returning for this movie. We see the United States was monitoring the final events in Godzilla Minus One and hinting they were ready to nuke Godzilla if this civilian lead operation failed. And we see Godzilla may have grown in this new movie. In Minus One, Godzilla was more on the smaller side. He was 150 feet tall, I believe. In this movie, we see him rising out of the water and passing by the Statue of Liberty it is very telling he is much larger. Godzilla in the last movie would not have been able to tower over the sea plane and the Statue of Liberty. Plus, Godzilla's design has been altered. He is much more spiky in this movie, especially around the shoulders.
The one last standout in the first teaser is all of the flying debris we see Shikishima navigating through in his fighter plane. This was everyone's first hint that something else is going on we are not seeing yet. Everyone is banking on King Ghidorah appearing in this movie, but it could be something else. Maybe it is a new after effect that happens when Godzilla is charging up or after the detonation of Godzilla's heat ray. This is how these movies usually work though. First movie is a stand-alone and the sequels start having other monsters that Godzilla has to fight. That has always been the trend.
In the new teaser, we don't get a lot of information of what is happening in this movie. We do get a new character, Kanji Muakami, who is played by Min Tanaka. His role is still unknown. We will have to wait until either the movie comes out or another trailer releases to find out more.
This teaser did reveal they are no longer hinting at the use of nukes against Godzilla. We actually do see a nuclear warhead being dropped in this teaser. The only time we actually saw Godzilla getting nuked was in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Godzilla (2014), and Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The Monsterverse took a jab at showing what happens if you actually nuke Godzilla and it only made him stronger. Godzilla Minus Zero may show Godzilla not getting stronger, but seeing him mutate further. Back in the first teaser that I mentioned, we actually do see two different Godzillas. The one passing the Statue of Liberty looks like the original. He doesn't have any odd features other than him being larger. However, we do see the extra dorsals when he rose out of the water. My guess is that Godzilla goes through a radical change in this movie and the anti-gravity effect could be a new power he gains from this new mutation.
There is this quick snippet that had a tiny Godzilla dorsal inside a petri dish. It does make me wonder how someone was able to get a hold of it. Did it fall off of Godzilla during one of his attacks? Was it extracted from Noriko? And what are they going to do with it?
It also makes me wonder why Shikishima is beating up Noda. What line did Noda cross that made Shikishima that much upset? Plus, there are other characters with them during this outburst. If this is some sort of operation to stop Godzilla that got screwed up, then how is Noriko involved?
While the teaser does not show us much, we did get a new plot synopsis drop.
Japan, reduced to "Zero" by the war,
was driven to the "Negative" by Godzilla.
Two years have passed since then.
As the nation struggles to rebuild,
just as it seemed everyday life had finally returned…
a new depth of despair descends, shattering that hope completely.
There won't be a third time.
This ends here.
First of all, that line "There won't be a third time. This ends here." has a double meaning. In terms of the story, it could mean Japan is preparing for Godzilla's inevitable return, implying they've learned from the first movie and are determined to finish the threat once and for all.
It also means there won't be a third movie. This is it. The end of the road for the Minus One story. Takashi Yamazaki has signed on for other projects. He has signed on with J. J. Abrams' studio Bad Robot to film Grandgear. And just recently, Yamazaki is reported to have teamed up with Ridley Scott for a new sci-fi film called Nue at 20th Century Studios. Ever since Godzilla Minus One, Yamazaki has gained large recognition in the world of Hollywood. Godzilla Minus One won an Oscar for Best Visual Effects in 2024. He was asked to screen Godzilla Minus One at Lucasfilm just after having expressed his desire to film a Star Wars movie.

In terms of a new monster appearing, it has been suspected that was the plan according to his interviews last year and the year before. However, the teasers has not hinted at such. The plot synopsis has not hinted at any new monster, neither. The only thing that might hint at another monster are in the posters. For the first poster and in the new one, the sun's rays are beaming through the smoke. It might signify something is coming. The lightning bolts in the new poster might be Ghidorah's gravity beams. Other than that, there is nothing else here. If there is a new monster, Toho Co. is hiding it very well. They are really trying to make sure to not spoil the movie and keep the human elements in the forefront.
Overall, the new teaser did not show a whole lot. It didn't get me as hyped as the first teaser from CinemaCon did. I am still excited to see Godzilla Minus Zero. Godzilla Minus One turned out to be my all-time favorite Godzilla movie. With this and Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered, I am so ready for Godzilla Day. I cannot wait for November to roll around.
Godzilla Minus Zero releases in theaters November 6th.
