Update (09/19/20): I deleted segment talking about a Gamera game being announced at Tokyo Game Show. As it turns out, there is a company called Gamera Game. If you heard of the game RIME that is one of the games this company made. When I saw Gamera Game on the TGS2020 schedule I literally thought of a new game featuring Gamera and that was not the case. So I am sorry for the false info.
As we get closer to the end of 2020, we are beginning to see what the rest of the year is going to look like. As you know, any news for Godzilla vs Kong has been very dismal. Last time there was news for the movie the first wave of toys were released at Walmart. With October being just around the corner costumes for Godzilla and Kong made by Rubie's Costume Co. (whom are known for making the inflatable costumes) have been spotted at Walmart. Also, Ubisoft revealed their Zelda-like title, Immortals Fenyx Rising, at the Ubisoft Forward online event. So I will be taking a look at those and more.
Immortals Fenyx Rising Revealed At Ubisoft Event:
Ubisoft had a presentation yesterday called Ubisoft Forward and the first game presented that was presented is Immortals Fenyx Rising. This game was revealed at E3 2019 under the previous title, Gods and Monsters, and was originally set to release on February 25, 2020 on all console platforms and on PC.
The game is being acclaimed as Ubisoft's version of Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild meaning the game will be open world with lots of places to explore and discover. There are shrines, puzzles, and special abilities similar to what you would find in Breath of the Wild. You play as Fenyx who was prophesied to save the home of the Greek Gods, Isle of the Blessed, from a Titan called Typhon. Fenyx must stop Typhon from destroying Isle of the Blessed and save the Greek Gods from a dark curse.
This looks like a game that I may check out. I am not a fan of Ubisoft, but they have played some of their interesting titles like Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, Peter Jackson's King Kong, and both South Park: The Stick of Truth and South Park: Fractured, But Whole. If it is like Breath of the Wild then I can see myself having fun playing. Breath of the Wild is one of the most popular games to have released by Nintendo. I do love games where I can take my time to run around and explore without walls or barriers to guide me. If Immortals has me hooked then I expect to be ignoring the Super Mario 3D All-Stars game for a few months.
Immortals Fenyx Rising launches on December 3rd, 2020 for all platforms (XBox Series X/S, Playstation 5, Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, XBox One, PC, and Google Stadia).
PlayMates Toys Updates Website:
Back in July, Walmart started selling the first wave of the Godzilla vs Kong toys and I have done reviews for them if you want to check them out in the "Review" section. The gist of it, though, is that the toys were hit and miss. I love the Kong w/ Battle Axe and Skull Crawler figures, the giant Godzilla and Kong figures were okay at best, and the other two Godzilla toys were skippable. Just recently, PlayMates Toys updated their website adding a section for Godzilla vs Kong.
Currently, it just lists all of the toys that are out on Walmart's shelves right now. However, I can see them updating the website slowly adding more toys to the list revealing more monsters as we get closer to the movie's release. Imagine using PlayMate's website as a way to find new info and suddenly a new toy is added to the list. It's good for some people that want to know everything about the movie just consuming spoilers like it's going out of style and it can be bad for others that want to see this movie knowing nothing about it.
So far, PlayMates Toys has had a terrible track record for keeping things spoiler free this year. Back in January, we got to see our first look at the toys at Hong Kong's Toy Fair from leaked images and there was one character that most of us know right about now that was unveiled. Then, promotional images of the toys started leaking and by July six of the the toys were randomly released. What fans are afraid of is Warner Bros. pulling another marketing campaign similar to Godzilla: King Of The Monsters where it was trailer drop after trailer drop, article after article, toy reveal after toy reveal. All of it was revealing every detail of the movie. It may not seem like it because we have not seen any official trailers for Godzilla vs Kong yet and we only had the six toys released, but the toys alone could very well spoil the movie. Just like the leaked image of the Burning Godzilla toy from Jakks Pacific was a spoiler for how Godzilla defeated King Ghidorah in the movie. I have a feeling that more will be revealed soon. If so and you do not want spoilers stay off the internet when it happens.
Godzilla vs Kong Costumes Discovered:
With October nearing closer and closer, we begin to see all of the stores getting ready for Halloween putting out candy, displaying decorations, and lining the shelves with costumes. Yesterday and this morning, pictures from @kiryuzilla98 and @godzillawolverinefan on Instagram were circling around social media showing Walmart has the Godzilla and King Kong costumes in their store.
So far, we have the two inflatable Kong and Godzilla costumes and the regular Kong costume and it is also revealed that these are just the same costumes that were released with Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island repackaged. If you go on Walmart's website, you can find two inflatable Godzilla and Kong costumes one for kids and the other for adults. The only differences between the inflatable Kong costumes for Skull Island and Godzilla vs Kong is that the one for Skull Island has the movie's title on the side of the costume and the one for GvK has more hair details, but the abs are gone. So Rubie's Costume Co. made minor changes to the design of the King Kong costume, but it is hardly noticeable unless you're really looking.
As for the regular Kong costume, it is the only one with a brand new design and not based on Rubie's previous costume design from Kong: Skull Island. I like the costume for Godzilla vs Kong since it is a full suit rather than a shirt and a mask, but what I like about the costume for Skull Island is that it has a lot more details, it has fur, and the mask is very detailed and expressive. The costume for Godzilla vs Kong is very bland and it is all black making the kid look like he is wearing latex more than a King Kong costume.
That is all of the updates for this week. Are you excited for a new Gamera game? Will you be playing Immortals Fenyx Rising? Do you think PlayMates Toys will be revealing more toys soon or is it too soon? What are your thoughts on the Godzilla vs Kong costumes?
