Before I begin, I want to say that this is not a rant. This is mainly me describing the experience I am having, so far, through the lack of content and what I have observed from other content creators and fans.
Godzilla: King Of The Monsters had came and went and with the end of 2019 coming closer by the day there is only one question in the minds of fans, "Where is the trailer for Godzilla vs Kong?". After months, many, including myself, have speculated when the trailer will come and in front of which movies.
Will it be in front of IT: Chapter 2? Will it come before Joker? Will it come before Dr. Sleep? The answer is that nobody has an answer to when we will see a trailer or any sort of information from this movie. We only get tiny bits of info for fans to snack on, but nothing really news worthy.
People have grown impatient and it is understandable as to why we are feeling the way we do. Ever since we got the first trailer for Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, it was information overload until the movie's release. The first month we got pictures and an article from Entertainment Weekly to go with the first trailer. Next, we got more information from Empire magazine and we got news of merchandise. Then, there was the second trailer following the reveal of the S.H. MonsterArts figures of the monsters in the movie. Suddenly in January, we got leaks of toys from JAKKS Pacific, more articles, and then a wave of TV spots for the movie. In February, NECA revealed their figures for Godzilla: King Of The Monsters at Toy Fair. In front of Shazam, there was a 5 minute trailer and finally the Final trailer of the movie arrived. By the time the movie came out, we pretty much know everything about Godzilla: King Of The Monsters to the point where it was spoiled for a lot of people.
Now, here we are today knowing very little about Godzilla vs Kong and I have to say it feels very much like we're going through a withdrawal. It was like we were on a ten month drug high and we are feeling the backlash after that high. We went from "Give me more information," to "I don't want to know any more information," and now we are at the "I NEED more information" stage.
It's frustrating because I feel it too. I am always looking at Gormaru Island, E.T.N. (Entertainment Talk Nation), and Kaiju News Outlet for any information to pop up on Twitter. I even find myself falling for fake news at times as well such as those leaked trailer descriptions and the trap of content shortage. We have made the same content about "Why Kong will win the fight," "Why Godzilla will the fight," or "Why MechaGodzilla can work in the Monsterverse". It's the same discussion circling over and over because we are really just arguing to pass the time for when we actually get more information on Godzilla vs Kong. Those discussions have been beaten to death and is just mush at this point.
The latest information that was reported for Godzilla vs Kong was Alexander Skarsgård's interview with the New York Times. He gave little tidbits about his character in the movie being a geologist and that he works closely with Kong. Before that, we got information on a new monster that would appear in the next Monsterverse comic about Kong. Afterwards, it was back to nibbling on rumors.
I am always telling myself and I have said it on here a couple of times that the trailer is going to come eventually and we just need to be patient. The movie will get released whether it comes out in March or some time later in 2020 if Warner Bros. and Legendary Studios ever does decide to delay it for some reason.
It could very well be that they are marketing this movie with a more conservative approach and give very little info as possible instead of going overboard like last time. Think about it. Godzilla vs Kong might very well be the last movie in the Monsterverse series and they want to make sure that the movie is as good as it can be. At the same time, they want to release their first trailer at the right time to get people excited and not feel as though we would wait very long.
One way or another just know that we are seeing that movie. All of us need to chill out. Until we have a confirmation that a trailer drop is imminent there is no reason to get worked up about it yet. For all we know, it could be today, tomorrow, a week from now, or in December. Once a trailer is announced, you will know whether if it's from me, Gormaru Island, Kaiju News Outlet, or E.T.N. (Entertainment Talk Nation) or from any of the mainstream entertainment magazines (Entertainment Weekly and Empire).
