After what felt like forever, the trailer has finally dropped and I can't stop watching it. It is the most tear-jerking trailer that I have ever watched in my entire life! One of the key things in film making is the first impression from the audience and usually movies have become very bland and boring. Especially the comic book movies are starting look alike. But with Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, it does not fall into the usual trope you see in action films. This is very dramatic and it's very chaotic. The music is settle and gentle instead of being hard and intense. The whole presentation of the movie's trailer just blended together so beautifully. Right now while I am typing this I am still a little shaken from all the excitement. It isn't common that a trailer has me watching it over and over again because of how amazingly beautiful it looks. It looks chaotic like the world is just about to end. It has Rodan and King Ghidorah causing havoc everywhere they fly. Wherever King Ghidorah goes there are storms running rampant. When his bio said that he was a mass extinction event incarnate, they really meant that literally.
My biggest fear was Mothra. As you know, she is just a giant moth and she still is, but the way she is presented was jaw dropping and awesome. She was literally like if I was staring at a god for the first time. Even though we have only seen glimpses of King Ghidorah and Rodan, they really have a terrifying presence in this film. Also, the SDCC 2018 exclusive poster even reveals what King Ghidorah looks like and he looks so awesome. As for Godzilla, he has a bigger presence in this film than the 2014 film. He has grown bigger and stronger than before. When he glows his design is like he just came from the movie, Pacfic Rim. Even Mothra looks like she just arrived from that movie. He even looks closer to his classic 54 design and it looks fantastic! I think all of the monsters actually have some of their classic looks added into their designs. If you look on the poster, you can see that King Ghidorah has his mane from his classic design back in 1964's Ghidrah, The Three Headed Monster. Rodan looks like a mix of his design from 1964, 1993, and 2004 versions. Mothra's design I am still not sure as the trailer only gives you a glimpse of her and not in full, but I am looking forward to what her final design looks like.
As for the story, it does not give out a whole lot of it, but I think that the amount they showed is perfect. A trailer should only give the audience an idea of what the movie is about without spoiling it. This is one taboo that this trailer breaks away from and I love it. It does follow some parts from the plot leak from last week, but I think this looks a hundred times better than how the leak described it. The story revolves around the Mark Russell trying to save his daughter, Madison, and his ex wife, Emma, from a terrorist organization that kidnapped them only to find out that Emma is one of the terrorists herself. She wants to set the monsters (titans in the movie trailer) free claiming that we need to give it back to them.
The poster that was revealed by director Michael Dougherty is truly a work of art. It looks so much like the movie poster from Godzilla vs King Ghidorah back in 1991. You have the middle head from King Ghidorah wrapped around Godzilla's neck as Godzilla challenges his arch nemesis. You don't see art done for movies like this anymore, but when they do it it just makes the movie much more epic.
Before I end my post, I am sorry for the confusion I brought to everybody. I got myself really wrapped up in all of the hype that I lost focus on everything. I was too excited and the information of when the trailer was dropping was all over the place. So again, I'm sorry for the confusion. That was never my intent and it was bad reporting on my part. I promise to not get ahead of myself and actually have confirmation on this kind of info next time.
That is it for today. I will be talking more about the trailer next week and do a break down on it. What did you think of the trailer? Was it worth the wait? Did it make you excited for the movie next year? Let me know in the comments what your thoughts are on the trailer.
