Netflix Bringing The Monster Mayhem In 2021

Last night, Netflix made three major drops on the internet. The first two are a new poster and the first trailer for Godzilla: Singular Point and the third drop were the first two images of the new Pacific Rim anime series titled Pacific Rim: The Black.

Godzilla: Singular Point is an anime TV series produced by Toho Animation and animated by Orange: Animation Studio and Bones Inc. The synopsis for Godzilla: Singular Point introduces our two main glasses girl and glasses boy protagonists and is read as followed:

When danger comes up from the depths, only young geniuses Mei, Yun, and their team can face the threat in Godzilla Singular Point!

The trailer for Godzilla: Singular Point showed off a lot reintroducing monsters from the mid to late Showa era such as Rodan, Gabara, Manda, Jet Jaguar, Anguirus, a Pteranodon, and a mosasaur looking monster that many fans are speculating to be Titanosaurus (I think it's Godzilla in a pre-evolved form, but that is a discussion for another time). Godzilla was only shown very briefly at the beginning and at the end of the trailer and both of those times he is shrouded in this thick, red fog. So we did not get a good look at him. However, we can get a better look of him in the poster. It is a silhouette, but we can identify that this new version has an interesting blend of Godzilla Earth, the Monsterverse Godzilla, and Shin-Godzilla with maybe a hint of the GMK Godzilla.

There is an interesting element shown in the trailer as almost all of the monsters are shrouded in this thick, blood red haze. Just from the few quick shots of Godzilla, Rodan, Manda, Gabara, and the flock of pterosaurs it appears the monsters excrete this red haze from their bodies.

Overall, I am really liking how this series is looking so far. I really love the blend of 2D and 3D animation styles. I just wish that we got to see more of Godzilla. Maybe in the next trailer we will get to see him fully revealed.

Long ago, humanity defeated the Kaiju. Now, they're evacuating Australia. In 2021, join a pair of siblings and their battered, long abandoned Jaegar as they battle across a continent of danger in Pacific Rim: The Black.

Pacific Rim: The Black is an anime series developed by Legendary Entertainment and Polygon Pictures. There is no other information about this series at this time other than it will be released sometime in 2021.

Instantly, I am already getting a bad vibe for this series since Polygon Pictures is the same studio that produced Godzilla: Monster Planet, Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle, and Godzilla: The Planet Eater. I was not a big fan of their animation and art style in those movies and that same style is reflected in these still shots. To me, the characters look like they came from a video game instead of an anime. I will still check out Pacific Rim: The Black, but I am just not as excited for this series as I am for Godzilla: Singular Point.

What are your thoughts on the reveals for Godzilla: Singular Point and Pacific Rim: The Black? Are excited for one more than the other or are you excited for both?
