Should We Be Worried About Godzilla: King Of The Monsters?

Writer's picture: Stephen MillerStephen Miller

Ever since Vera Farmiga's interview with Metro about her character in Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, there were a lot of mixed reactions from all corners of the social media. I'm not talking about her character though. I'm talking about the "communicating/controlling the monsters" idea that she mentioned in her interview. The question is should we worried?

The idea of controlling monsters is not a new idea at all. We have seen this in previous Godzilla films before. Even in the more recent films, Pacific Rim and Rampage, used this idea as well. In Pacific Rim, we had aliens controlling the kaiju through a psychic/hive mind link and in Rampage the bad guys were using a sound amplifier to make George, Ralph, and Lizzie run amok through Chicago. So why is this idea a bad idea all of a sudden? The most common excuse I've seen is that Godzilla: King Of The Monsters will turn out to be like Godzilla vs Space Godzilla. This, in my opinion, is not a fair comparison at all.

The approach of this idea is completely different. In Godzilla vs Space Godzilla, they used a transmitter and a psychic to make it happen. That is nowhere close to how Godzilla: King Of The Monsters is approaching this idea. Based on Farmiga's interview, she uses bioacoustics to communicate with these monsters which sounds kind of interesting. We can speculate how this can be done and for which monster she is communicating with, but it is really blown out of proportion to compare it Godzilla vs Space Godzilla since we have not really seen anything yet to criticize over. It sort of reminds me how back in 2014, Godzilla's new look was being criticized for being "too fat." That was all started by a few people from Japan on the internet and the media blew it out of proportion to make it sound like that everyone in Japan was criticizing the design. Of course, this became a joke not too long after the news reports, but in the end everybody liked Godzilla's new look. I think that once everybody has seen the trailer for Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, the worries and criticisms will fade away into obscurity and we'll laugh about it. If the reactions for the test screenings are true, then I don't think we have anything to worry about.

I am as excited as everyone else for San Diego Comic Con 2018. The hype train for this movie has already left the station and I know you're on this train too, but until we see or hear about something then there is no need to pull the brakes yet. I hope that we don't ever have to pull the brake since the brakes on this train are gone. Capput. Disappeared. So if you forgot something, well then you're out of luck. I would like to know your thoughts on the criticisms towards Godzilla: King Of The Monsters. Is this something we should worry about or is it too early?
