Legendary In Talks With Adam Wingard Of Next Monsterverse Movie

The Hollywood Reporter made an exclusive report last night that Legendary is in early talks with Godzilla vs Kong director Adam Wingard about another movie in the Monsterverse series. People are taking this article as confirmation that the Monsterverse is continuing, but is that the case? Here is what The Hollywood Reporter has to say.

"Now, instead of winding down the franchise, Godzilla vs Kong may ramp it up. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Legendary is quietly taking steps to stretch the series into one or more installments, entering early talks with Godzilla vs Kong director Adam Wingard to return for another round of monster-on-monster mayhem. If a deal closes, Wingard would be the first helmer to return to the monster fold since Godzilla kicked off the Legendary partnership with Japan's Toho in 2014 with $524 million in global receipts."

From how it sounds, Legendary seems to be planning something, but nothing is set in stone yet. Currently, Adam Wingard has already signed on to direct Thundercats and the sequel to Face/Off. If he does sign on to make another Monsterverse movie, then it may take some time before the next movie goes into production. Which leads to another possibility where Adam Wingard could also decline and move on to other projects and Legendary having to search for another director.

Apparently, one idea that is floating around is a Son of Kong movie. Until there is confirmation, I can't really say that this is going to be the next movie. A baby Godzilla or Godzilla Jr. would make more sense, in my opinion. A baby Kong would be much harder to explain since Kong is established as the last of his kind. If any baby monsters are introduced I would rather have the movie not be entirely centered around the baby.

Nothing is set in stone, right now. Even though it sounds like Legendary is planning something whether it is one or more movies, it does not sound like Legendary has totally confirmed that the Monsterverse is continuing yet. The only way to confirm that the Monsterverse is continuing is by confirmation from Legendary themselves. For all we know, Legendary may come out and say Godzilla vs Kong is the end to the Monsterverse regardless of THR's article. So keep your eyes peeled and keep the 'ContinuetheMonsterverse' hashtag going. It's not over until Legendary says it's over.

What are your thoughts on THR's article? Do you think this is confirmation that the Monsterverse is continuing or do you think we need to wait until we get confirmation from Legendary themselves?
