"Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire" DELAYED To April 2024

As 2023 begins to wind down into the "ber" months, Monsterverse fans have been eager for the release of Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, which was originally slated for March 15th, 2024. Ever since the first teaser for the film was released back in April, new information on the movie has been silent. That was until yesterday when Warner Bros. Discovery broke the news that the movie will be delayed to April 12th, 2024.

The decision for the movie's delay was based on the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes not seeing an end any time soon. The most recent news on the strikes came out earlier this week revealing the studios and the WGA sat down to negotiate an offer, which was turned down by the WGA. You can find the details on the offer outlined here, which will take you to an article from Deadline.

Godzilla X Kong is not the only movie that is affected. Dune: Part Two was also pushed back from its original December 2023 release to March 15th, 2024. Deadpool 3, Avatar 3–5, "Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel," Twisters, and many others all had release dates pushed back from their original release schedules.

Delaying the movie from March to April is not that bad of a delay. We do have the Apple TV series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters that is currently scheduled to release this Fall. The show will have 10 episodes with each episode releasing weekly. If the show releases late November/early December, the final episode would land in early February giving enough time to start marketing Godzilla X Kong right after the show ends. That is at least being hopeful the strikes will be over with by that time.
