Kurt And Wyatt Russell Officially Confirmed For Monsterverse TV Series

For a few weeks, there was a rumor going around that Kurt Russell and his son, Wyatt Russell, were in talks of joining the untitled Monsterverse series for Apple TV+. As we are starting to learn with this show rumors develop to be true especially with the most recent development. Kurt and Wyatt Russell are confirmed for the upcoming show playing older and younger of the same character.

Although there is no confirmation yet on who they will be playing, rumor has it Kurt and Wyatt will be playing a character named Lee Shaw. Doing a little bit of digging, the character Shaw is already a pre-existing character in the Monsterverse originating from the Godzilla (2014) prequel graphic novel Godzilla Awakening. Shaw was a Monarch operative that was rescued by Ishiro Serizawa’s father, Eiji. Eiji was a part of a cargo vessel that intercepted the SOS and rescuing Shaw would find Eiji enlisted with Monarch to help study the monsters known as Shinomura and Gojira. After Eiji’s death, Shaw would approach Ishiro to offer him a job at Monarch and Ishiro responds saying he’s ready to join. Shaw replied that he is unsure that anyone is ready for what’s coming.

If the rumor of Kurt and Wyatt's roles as Shaw are true, we can start to piece together a little more of what we may see in this series. To have an older and younger versions of Shaw we may get to see parts of Godzilla Awakening play out in flash backs and maybe get to see the Shinomura in live action, as well.

The Shinomura is a monster that is not one entity, but a hive or super-colony of starfish shaped parasitic cells that lived before the Permian-Triassic extinction event. Since then, they laid dormant underground until the monster was awaken by the bombing of Hiroshima. Once the Shinomura had woke up, so did Godzilla and his hunt for the Shinomura began. In 1954, Godzilla and the Shinomura would be lured to the Bikini Atoll by a nuclear bomb, which exploded once the monsters began their final clash. The Shinomura would be killed from the blast, but Godzilla would survive and go back to dormancy until 2014.

Again, this is if the rumor of Kurt's and Wyatt's roles of young and old Shaw is true. What we do know is that Kurt Russell's name alone will certainly bring in fans to watch the show. Kurt Russell is known for movies such as The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, Overboard, Escape from L.A., Escape from New York, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and The Christmas Chronicles and The Christmas Chronicles Part Two. Wyatt Russell has not been in many notable titles, but his most well known are Overlord and Marvel's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

What do you think of Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell being added to the cast? Do you think they will be playing Shaw or a different character? Could we see the Shinomura in live-action?
